Even with the economic downturn. Toyota believes the SUV market is still on the rise, as they will have a total of five different SUVs available for sale. Since 1996, the RAV4, or "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", has been Toyota's entry level SUV. In 2001 it gets a new engine, and a fresh new body, not just a facelift, which makes the RAV4 larger inside and out, than the previous model. It now looks like the cars manufactured by the competition but it's unusual look is what made it a success and Toyota has turned it's back to this.

The RAV4 comes with two or four-wheel drive base version. The all-new RAV4 is only available as a four-door model. The new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with Toyota's VVT-i technology gives the RAV4 a significant, and much needed dose of power, especially since the RAV4 is heavier than previous models. The engine produces 148 horsepower and weighs only 236 lbs. That engine is 50 pounds lighter then the previous one and gives greater output and fuel economy, what can beat that?
