The first A1 Chasis Jetta was basically a volkswagon Rabbit with a trunk. Created in 1979 it was released only four years after the Rabbit. It was also available with either two or four doors. The GLI was the "sportier" version of this early Jetta. Mostly like a GTI with a trunk. This car changed in 1985 when the North American A2 chasis was released. This same model was added to european markets one year later. This car was also available with either two or four doors. There were three versions of engines for this second generation model. One was the 1.8L 8v, the second a 1.8L 16v and the strongest a 2.0L 16V.

The third generation Jetta was the A3 Chasis model which was introduced in 1993. This new generation had something it's previous makes didn't, a v6 engine. This engine is known as the VR6. VR6 stands for "Vee Reihenmotor" which loosely translated means "inline-V" It sported 15 degrees which is very narrow for a V6. It packs quite a punch from 2.8 litres, 172hp to be exact. The Jetta with this engine is the GLX!
