The
Hummer is a "High Mobility" vehicle. It is a multipurpose
vehicle conceived of in the early 1970's to replace
the existing fleet of US all terrain transports. In
1983 the US army ordered 55,000 of these vehicles
from AM General over a period of five years. Am General
had won the bid to build these cars. The Army demand
was so great that 70,000 were actually produced during
that period. In 1991, overwhelming demand for the
vehicle come from the general public.
