The Fiero was a cheap and practical sports car available during the mid eighties. It was highly criticized because of initial engine problems during the first release in 1984. The car was recalled and fixed but this plagued further sales. The engine problem was actually a fire hazard that could set the whole car ablaze. This was due to bad connectors. This is where it's bad reputation came from. The car was designed by a man named Hulki Aldikacti and GM bought his plans and let him build and manufacture the car with them.

He had to build the entire car with existing parts from the GM line. The only original part of the car was the exterior design envelope. It is a mid-engine car thought to be too impractical and inefficient. But the truth is that this car was well designed and for a price tag of 15 thousand US, at that time you couldn't go wrong. Eventually the car was taken off the market in 1988 due to really bad sales. No doubt due to the engine fire rumors.
