The Explorer was first introduced in 1990 and it has resided at the top of the sport-utility sales since then. The explorer is comfortable inside and is great on pavement and off. The success of suv's in the United States was sparked by the Explorer and it created a new market paradigm. Of course, has to do with America's big appetite for SUVs. Ford knew that a car like this would appeal to a very broad audience. This has been Ford's only major accomplishment in the 90's.

The 2001 Explorer is identical to last year's model. There are four trim levels available: XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited. The majority of Explorers sold are XLTs. Optional equipment worth considering includes side airbags, a moonroof, rear load leveling and a reverse sensing system. Although the reverse sensing system seems like a useful thing on a car it is not really needed. Besides, it's just one more thing to go wrong. Overall, this car is a great value except for the fact that it guzzles more gas then ever.
