The Delorean is the vision of the John Z. Delorean. It was created because he wanted to put the "ethical sports car" on the road. The car was manufactured beginning in 1981 at the State-of-the-art factory in Dunmurby, Northern Ireland. For those of you curious as to who John Delorean is, he was once one of General Motor's most respected designers. He was responsible for the 70's Corvette. The DMC-12 portrayed above is powered by a rear-mounted, 130 HP Peugeot-Renault-Volvo 2.8 litre V6 engine. The most easily recognizable feature on this car is it's Gull-wing doors.

This car can also do 0-60 in less then 8 seconds which is impressive for a v6 at that price and design. Only 8,583 Deloreans were made from 1981 to 1983 in Ireland. The car was funded by the British Government which though John Delorean left them with a cheap car and took much of the development money from the project for himself. This car drives with the driver only 6 inches off the ground. But at the same time there is still smooth handling at quick speeds. Most people either like this car or hate it.
